In network installations, all users of ORCA AVA work with shared program data that is stored centrally on a server. If a server relocation becomes necessary, this data must be moved from the shared system directories and the new network paths to the system directories must be made available to all users again.
The procedure for moving the system directories depends on whether the current server is still running or no longer running. If the server is still running, the
wizard will guide you step-by-step through the process of moving the data from the old system directories to the new directories you have selected. The data is relocated automatically and the installation settings are adjusted accordingly. All other workstations will be automatically relocated to the new system directories the next time you start the program. Also, pay attention to the system requirements!
If you have any doubts about relocating ORCA AVA to a new server: Our support will be happy to assist you regarding the correct procedure. If the old server is no longer working, please also contact our support team. You can find the support request form in the ORCA Manager via the Help menu at the top right or in the ORCA Helpdesk.
Updates after a server relocation:
After such a server relocation, there is initially no
(client 1). However, available updates can be executed by the on any workstation. The workstation on which the authorized user first installs the update automatically becomes the new First Workstation.

German Video: The relocation wizard for system directories
|
If you plan to move shared data from an old server to a new one, the
wizard will assist you.The following shared system directories can be relocated:
You can move all directories at once or only selected directories (custom). You can create the user data and external libraries as subdirectories to the central settings (recommended). The new system directories must be empty.
You must copy shared data stored outside the system directories yourself, as this data is not relocated automatically!
Prerequisites
Moving the shared system directories is only possible on the computer that was installed as the first workstation. Before the relocation, make sure that all workstations have the same version of the application installed.
All users must have ORCA SOLUTIONS (ORCA AVA) closed. The application will be locked for all users for the entire duration of the relocation. Therefore, choose an appropriate time for the server move and inform all users in advance.
Relocating the shared system directories
All users of ORCA AVA need read/write permissions for the new directories on the new server!
Uninstalling and reinstalling the 1st workstation
After successfully relocating the shared data, the application is automatically uninstalled on the first workstation and then reinstalled. This is done automatically by a batch file.
Make sure that access to the setup file is ensured. You need administrator rights for the reinstallation. If necessary, have your username and password at hand.
If problems occur during the reinstallation, you can run the batch file 'reinstall.bat' manually. The file can be found in the Local Settings directory in your personal folder (...\Local Settings\Username).
Further workstations
For all other workstations, the new network paths are automatically entered when ORCA AVA is opened for the first time after the relocation. The first time opening the program after the relocation of the data can take a moment.
Mobile workstations
In order for mobile workstations to access the new system directories, they must be logged into the network and the application must be started as a network client.
