Copy installation package

When all preparations are done, first copy the installation package with the new program version to a shared drive/directory. Have the license data ready.

Version update first workstation

Generally, any user can start a version update installation on any workstation:

  • This user becomes the authorized user for subsequent software updates.
  • The workstation computer on which the version update is started becomes the first workstation.

TIP

Which user was previously authorized to start software updates? You can find the information in the ORCA Managervia the Help menu under System Information| System Diagnosis | Installation::First workstation ( Installed by) user X on: PC Y.

  1. Log in (authorized user) on any computer on which the application is already installed.
  2. Open the drive/directory with the copied files.
  3. Start the setup.exe file and follow the wizard.
  4. To complete the installation, enter the Customer Number and License Key .

During this update installation, the (new) version number of the server installation is now stored. In this way, users at all other workstations will also be prompted to update the application the next time they start it.

Version update for additional workstations with automatic update function

If the application is then started on another workstation computer, the version number is compared and it is recognized that an update is to be carried out. The user is prompted to update the software

All clients must have been installed as an additional workstation. A message then prompts the user to perform the update.

If a workstation computer does not prompt the user to update after installing an update for the first workstation, the computer is either accessing another installation directory (another server installation) or has beeninstalled as a single workstation.

Check: ORCA Manager | Iocn Einstellungen | ORCA Solutions: Systemverzeichnisse (System directories) - the directories for system and user data are specified there.

  1. Click on Update in the Software Update Request dialog to start the installation wizard.
  2. The Update Information dialog lists the settings made (by the administrator) during the initial/update installation, e.g. the directory for system data.
  3. In the next dialog Ready for installation! start the update installation clicking the Start installation button.

The license information is automatically transferred from the installation made for the first workstation.
