About installation technology

The Windows Installer has become a standard method for creating and administering setups for Windows operating systems. Microsoft recommends Windows Installer technology for installing software. Therefore, ORCA SOLUTIONS uses the Windows Installer to perform the installation.

Functional Scheme

The Windows Installer runs as an operating system service on the target computer and carries out the activities requested by the installation program there. As a central entity, it manages the available resources and handles all installations. If, on the other hand, each installation program carries out modifications independently, conflicts cannot always be avoided.

Unique product code

Each software product is identified by a unique product code. During installation, the Windows Installer creates entries in the registry of the target computer. Subsequent updates or maintenance installations can be assigned on the basis of the product code.

Therefore, only one program version can be installed per computer.
